When did Lady Liberty and Uncle Sam get married? by Snate 2011-02-12 16:26:49

I have seen tons of cartoons by different people, both Editorial/Political Cartoons and even Sinfest, that have them as a married couple.

Here is one I just received today via email and like I said above I've seen tons of other examples over the years from various cartoonists. Pretty much every time I have seen them together it has been as a couple. Of course it's possible there are cartoons with them together but not as a couple but they are the rare exception and I can't even remember one.

Have they always been a couple as long as both have existed or did this representation come much later?
