Finding a code can easily take a hundred adventures or more (though one can get lucky), and a bare minimum of 3-7 are required for just the first code test (which counts as 1 turn spared). Better to try and pass as many item tests as possible.
If we have a disco bandit, he can turn bottles of sewage schnapps into Ooze-o. Sewer nuggets can be malused into sewer wads by wadbot or smashbot (check if they're online first). Saucerors can make oil of oiliness.
Gatorskin umbrellas are also an option (they take TT's to make), and it will save turns overall if Inigio's Incantation of Inspiration is running when they craft. Only the unfortunate dumplings are hard to come by. They require a pickpocket-only item from the sewers, and then need to be cooked in the Wok of Ages. If you've got enough meat, all is easy to come by.
The grates, as you say, make it easier for people to get through, and the valves make non-combats more frequent so that you have a greater chance of going down the tunnels. The biggest turn-eater would be getting caught without someone to free you. |
