A little trick which may help in a tight spot by parastra 2010-12-05 12:07:06
In the mall, you can buy Game Grid Tickets for about 400 meat each. These can be traded in the arcade (on the wrong side of the tracks) for finger cuffs.

Finger cuffs immobilise your opponent for 1 or more rounds (sort of like the Pastamancer spell 'Entangling Noodles') but they have 2 big benefits that noodles doesn't:

1. You can use them more than once per combat (requires more than 1 set of cuffs, so buy a few)
2. You get a message telling you when it's your last round of freedom (something like '<opponent> tears the cuffs to pieces'), so you can use another set of cuffs in that round to keep the monster immobilised.

Also, if you have a familiar that also immobilises your opponents (like a levitating potato), then when the familiar uses its immobilising effect, the counter for the cuffs doesn't decrease in that round, so they last longer.

And if you can get your combat initiative to (I think) +60%, then you'll always get the jump on the monsters in the sewer.
