period. Washing dishes requires heavy lifting, long periods of standing, a hot wet environment, and things like cleaning out the grease traps can be smelly and unpleasant. By implementing a two week training period, where the trainee is paid by the Unemployment office, the hotel doesn't have to set up a payroll until they know that the person is likely to stick around long enough to make it worth while.
