I spent most of the day helping my dad sort through all the stuff in his garage, to get ready for a yard sale. He is trying to sell everything except his clothes and whatever bits of precious he can't stand to lose that will fit in his Suburban. Anything that doesn't sell, he is donating to Goodwill.
Then he is going to turn the house over to the bank, and move back to Wisconsin so he can spend some time with his brother, cousins, and remaining aunts while he has a chance.
Dad's health is failing pretty badly. He's been to numerous doctors. They are estimating he has between 6 months and 2 years left. I can't afford to visit Wisconsin, and doubt that is going to change soon.
So, basically, I am preparing to say goodbye to my dad. Permanently. Because once he loads up that big SUV and drives away, I will likely never see him again. |
