Seriously, airlifting his van down the mountain for him seems a bit excessive, especially "scrambling" to do it right away. Did he have a van because he's handicapped and couldn't make the walk? And him staying in the van while it's being airlifted seems a bit odd too. Let him walk back down if he's able, and then if you need to clear the van out of the path you can get the helicopter to do it whenever it's more convenient and cheaper to do so.
