The astrophysical model is based on more recent, reliable observations. That leads to the conclusion that the observation in 1054 also was a supernova that led to the creation of the nebula. It can't be 100% sure unless somebody gets hir hands on some spare stars, a lot of boom and a lab journal, but the model is consistent.

Where as a lot of aspects in Christianity seem to be exclusively based on a single observation long ago.
