If I had to write the factual history of evolution, including the age of the earth, etc.... in a way that a common sheep herder who perhaps can count to 10 on a lucky day understands it, I would also have to use language and examples he can understand.

Funny, I just read "Flag in Exile" in the Honor Harrington Series, and a sermon by Reverend Hanks of the Church of Humanity Unchained quite fits that:

There will always be more of God and His will for us to learn. We must test any new lesson against the truth God has already taught us, yet we must test it, not simply say 'No, this is strange to me and therefore against the will of God!'
.......
A little change now and then is God's way of reminding us that we have not yet learned everything.
