Particularly in the version of $church's dogma spoonfed by a given preacher. If one has already examined and reconciled the idiosyncracies of what was "learned" as a child, it's possible to accept both. But approached from a devout misunderstanding of $religion and/or science, it's common to attack science and defend religion or vice versa.
