Even if a single line of booms can CONTAIN the oil, what then? You've got an enormous puddle of oil sitting on the sea, sure you could pour several million gallons of dispersant on it but that isn't the nicest stuff on the planet and the clumps of oil are have to end up somewhere. With the method mentioned in the article you guide the oil to specific points where it can be collected.
