You arent necessarily the same person you were when you were diagnosed.
And being Aspie doesnt negate what you've learned about human nature and people. In fact, because you dont have the natural cues, its probably helped you to analyse people better then most people do, because you arent 'blinded' by instinct that other people can play to.
I know I had to, in order to make sense of the world, because I dont read body language, I learned to rationalise what I'm not seeing, until I can predict why people do things they do.
Oh, and people are interested. Maybe not to the depth and breadth we are in a subject, but people dont often ask questions just to be polite.
Its a shock, learning what exactly it is, and I denied it for so many years, only admitting it when it caused problems. I think the shock is where you are now.
