if $IT company is that serious about wanting you to work for them, and have indicated 'end of summer is ok' in some way shape or form, you may be able to leverage that to complete your current contract (I am assuming you cannot easily get out of it - a big assumption, I know) and start there after the end of your contract in September. If they are that serious about wanting you, they may be willing to wait. On the other hand, they may also be willing to 'buy out' your contract, if there is a financial penalty for your breaking it early.

Some companies will go far for an employee they want. I was in a similar situation when I got the job i have now. The small mom & pop company that did IBM support made me an offer the same day as the larger company I now work for. They were willing to match the larger company's benefits package and salary package. I came here because this was more what I wanted to do, and don't regret my choice. I am not even sure the other company is still in business (the did primarily IBM support - System 360, AS/400, stuff of that class - not the really heavy iron, but not the little PC stuff, either).
