The entire process I mean, from deciding elections are in order to having a new occupant of 10 Downingstreet.
Our current cabinet collapsed 20 February 2010, because one of the coalition partners felt it couldn't support the cabinet any longer, and the ministers for that party resigned. It then took several days each for:
1. the Queen accepting that resignation
2. The remaining parties to conclude that continuing as a minority coalition, or with another partner, was not feasible and elections were in order
3. come up with a date for the election: (wait for it.....) 9 June. Over 3 months later!
Yep, while we were waiting for elections to be prepared, you guys had a government crisis, elections, first coalition formation in 2 generations, and a new government.
In the meantime, it's quite likely that after the elections we'll have to wait another 3 months for a coalition to be formed :X
