A *howitzer* is a gun.
An M1 Garand a *rifle*.
A glock is a pistol.

A rod can be a cylinder with a height greater than its diameter.
A rod can be an automobile.
A Rod can be a Serling, Stewart, or alleged 'roid-lete.
A rod can be a male privates.

But this is the *first* time I've heard of it being used to refer to a firearm.
(sure this isn't because sometimes a pistol is used in place of rod?)
