I know how hot brass is as it ejects. I'm fairly fortunate; most of my shooting is long guns, mostly with Garand-style actions which eject VERY positively and generally downrange (in fact, the mini-30 a friend recently got is highly unlikely to be reloadable; it was throwing the Wolf casings a good 30 yards thataway. Not quite as bad as the FOAF's Saiga which would bend steel casings as it ejected, but that family does not mess about when it comes to getting the spent brass out...). The handguns I get to shoot tend to eject pretty positively too; the person a couple of lanes over gets to deal with my brass as it descends...
