But, as less and less of the old bills are out there (legit or otherwise) the more scrutiny they will recieve. We see it here in Canada which has had noticable redesigns in bills for a number of years. People can still use the older bills (if they still have them) but cashiers often look more closely at them. Not even just to see if they are real or fake, but because they are unusual, and people have a fascination with old money.
