... is that nuke and pave is often faster. Chances are (I'd say 95%+) it's something in the registry that's not being erased with the uninstall.

Another question: does Acrobat use a default template (like Office uses normal.dot)? You may have to find that and replace with a known good one.

One thought you might try prior to nuke and pave is this: try running ccleaner after uninstalling. It's pretty good at finding orphaned registry entries. I usually run it three times (because after deleting the entries, you will have other orphaned entries due to the first scan). Then, reinstall and try again. If that doesn't work, I'd say you will spend less time either 1) issuing a workaround, or 2) nuke and pave.

Another thing I would consider is switching their computer with someone else's who doesn't use that functionality.
