He taught me to use a slide rule rather that a calculator when I was 8, so he understood it well enough to visualise it.
He knew how to navigate the open ocean, so he knew trigonometry.
His favorite subject in school was Geometry, so he actually enjoyed it.
He used Einstein's book on relativity to help me with my algebra and introduce me to physics, so he understood Einstein's stuff too.
He read my chemistry textbook in a week out of boredom(he had the flu), so he was familiar with that too... though working as an Operator in an oil refinery probably helped.
He may not have been a Mathematician, but his math skills were very good. ;-) |
