=Any= kind of P4 heatsink should be held on to the mainboard by a frame and clips - they're too stinking heavy to hang by themselves.

In any case, you never just =pull= on the heatsink, you twist, tilt, then pull, to break the adhesion of whatever thermal gunk is being used, then you can remove the core properly.
