You would need one hell of a strategic/tactical command system to handle 1500 warthogs in that small of an airspace. Not to mention one metric arseload of runway space. The author's little fantasy battle is realistically impossible. Also: note that it could, possibly, take down one carrier group. The nuclear strike that would follow up would pretty much guarantee strategic failure though.
