The countries the author is referring to can't field that many aircraft. And I question the missiles as well.
Let's take Iran as an example, they have a variety of combat aircraft produced from the 1960's until today. Iran has a total of 305 combat aircraft. These are not all expensive "modern" aircraft (another assertion by the author). Only 40 of these would meet that qualification. My point is, the countries the author is referring to could field only a small fraction of the number of aircraft he is suggesting. However, he is right that the other technology, intelligence and training makes the US pilots far more effective in combat. He gets close to the mark by suggesting that the country in question would reduce the number of aircraft the carrier could field. What the country really needs to do is keep the carrier from fielding ANY aircraft. Not an easy task, but as has been proven, it's not necessarily an impossible task. USS Cole anyone? |
