| New Shiny arriving Thursday!! |

So Eowyn and I have been discussing flat-panel televisions since we decided we wanted to buy the house we just bought in November. It's a terrific house, but the only logical place to put a television is to mount a flat-panel above the fireplace.
So I suggested a 37 inch LCD. After some research and some measuring of the space above the fireplace, we mutually decided that a 42-47 would be better; a 37-inch would just look too tiny in the huge space above the mantle.
So I did some research, found a few models that reviewed well (both professional reviews and public), and we went price-comparing. So we looked at the particular model that we both liked from the reviews, and it was okay. The graphics quality could have been a bit better. So Eowyn starts looking around and she finds a plasma television. Naturally, she likes the look of the screen much better than the LCD, and the plasma screens are a touch cheaper than the same-sized LCD (when did that happen? They were always more expensive when I worked at Radioshack!). So she says she likes plasma screens better, now, so we jumped over to the plasma section of the displays. She found a substantially larger television than we were intending, and asked me to measure the height of it; naturally, it was too tall for our space. So she found another one, 5" smaller. Measured it, and it seems that it will fit just fine. So she wants this particular one. I took down the model number and the price, and we came home and looked up reviews. Turns out it's got better reviews than the LCD we looked at.
So she asks me to find the television on Amazon and compare prices. It's the same price, but Amazon doesn't charge taxes, of course. That, and the monster cables are 90% cheaper than Best Buy, and the wall-mount unit is 40% cheaper. She said to go ahead and buy it. w00tness! :-D
So here comes teh new shiny: 50" Samsung PN50B550
All I had to do to get a television 13" larger than I originally asked for was to turn her loose in Best Buy. Who knew? :-D |
