Sell the Portable Hole, take that and your existing cash and buy Iron Bands of Whatever they are.
Toss bands at Paladin. He's immobile.
Immobile targets are eligible for a coup de grace.
So you should be giving him something like 8d6 of damage. Can Mr. Paladin make a DC 40 Fortitude save?

To do it right - hire a flunky with a decent to-hit (1st level mage with True Strike). That way it all happens during the surprise round.
