"learn from them and come up with something that is the best of all their systems." didn't you understand? So make something better. So far all I hear as an alternative to the dreaded "Socialized" healthcare is to maintain the status quo. Or at best tweak it a bit. Subsidize lower income families so they can afford to pay private insurers. Wow. There's a great idea. Now the insurer can charge even more, and the taxpayer will make up the difference. How can anyone who calls himself a fiscal conservative be in favor of that?
Make insurance available across state lines? What about state's rights? The reason it's not available now is mostly because of the radical difference in each state's regulations. But I thought conservatives were big proponents of state's rights. Plus, without even more regulation, breaking down the barriers of state lines will only make it easier for the big fish to swallow the little ones. Just like the banks have been doing for 20 years. Look how stunningly well that's been turning out.
Tort reform? Well here's one that I agree with, but seriously, who do you think the biggest opponents of tort reform are? Lawyers? Sure, AND the insurance companies that have these huge judgments eat into their profits. Restricting damages in lawsuits would simply have the effect of letting sloppy practitioners and their insurers off the hook for some of their most egregious failures. |
