but it seems to mainly be about fixing the symptoms rather than the root cause.
Something that the cynic in me would point out is a wonderful business model, make them feel better now without preventing recurrence and you have a nice dependable income for the foreseeable future.

When I was having problems with my back I could have gone to chiropractor and I'm sure I would have felt better.
Instead I went to a physical therapist who was also able to manipulate my spine back into alignment and make me feel better instantly. However they then proceeded to show me the correct stretchs and exercises to a) encourage things back into the correct place on my own and b) strengthen to correct muscles so that over time it would stop being a problem.
