In fact, the *only* difference between the regular flu shot and the new H1N1 flu shot is the strain of virus in it. The new one is just the novel H1N1 virus vs. the usual cocktail of 3 influenza viruses.

Had Novel H1N1 flu showed up in Jan/Feb instead of March/April, there might have been enough time to just include it in the seasonal flu shot formulation and then we'd have only had to deal with one shot for both seasonal and novel influenzas.
