Obama and Fox news kerfluffle. Opinions? by Classic_Jon2009-10-26 12:03:50
Hasn't it been determined *in a court of law* by kahuana2009-10-26 12:07:45
No. That wasn't the ruling. by AndyA 2009-10-26 12:26:56
The ruling, which while the case was specifically about Fox News applies equally to all TV news stations, was that they were under no legal obligation to report the truth and can broadcast items which they know are incorrect or misleading.

The case was a reporter trying to claim whistleblower protection after making a fuss about an inaccurate story and being fired. They lost the claim because Fox hadn't actually broken the law by showing the story.

I have no idea if there are any FCC rules which the court didn't consider that would require them to be truthful or not.
