My very first website was the free space offered by my (then) dialup ISP, Cybernex. That's where my personal page was.
Then, a few months in, I set up 3 Geocities sites because they were all free, of course. After about a year, I started migrating to a "paid" host (Drak Net), because Jen (the owner) let me host there for a dozen CDs that she would either sell or give away, and then let me host my band site there for next to nothing as part of her "give back to the community" program (and helping starving artists).
I had my band site, Mamawitch's pagan parenting page, my mom's book/fan site.
The designs were simple. But they were never hideous or used blink tags or stuff like that. And they weren't terribly graphics intensive because I was always sensitive to usability and page load times. |
