Another excellent series is by Dorothy Gilman, about Mrs. Pollifax. This is a delightful mysteries with a sense of the absurd.

Mrs. Pollifax is a widow in her late 70s or early 80s, who is a very involved member of her community. She lives in New Brunswick, New Jersey, where she pushes the book cart at the hospital on Wednesdays, takes karate lessons on Friday, and is an active member of the Garden Club. And, she works for the CIA as an international operative.

See the book list. Visit the fan site.

If you intend to read the entire series, I recommend you start with first book, The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax, for a proper introduction to the characters. If you just want to sample just one, I recommend you try The Elusive Mrs. Pollifax.
