How accurate is GPS? by McNutcase2009-08-26 16:23:07
General rule of thumb, 5-10m horizontal by AndyA2009-08-26 16:53:33
OK. That tells me they were actually using DGPS. by McNutcase2009-08-26 17:25:24
It could just be WAAS/EGNOS. by AndyA 2009-08-26 17:43:44
Technically that is DGPS but using a single receiver you can still get sub meter for a good system or 1-2m for an OK one.

Alternatively if you don't need the position that accurately in real time you can log the GPS data and then differentially correct it back in the office.
With the correct software and a few minutes data it's possible to correct 5m autonomous GPS data down to RTK levels (a few cm).
There is freely available base station data to do this covering most industrialised countries, all you need is a GPS capable of logging carrier phase measurements and the PC software to crunch it.
