...certain well-placed media figures acting like trolls. They come on their shows, blurt out twisted interpretations of events or at worst make them up out of whole cloth, get their audiences stirred up and motivated to spreading their misinformation throughout the landscape of political discourse, and hide safe in their studios, cutting off opposing viewpoints or yelling over them, bringing up diversionary asides and otherwise lowering the level of the debate to a shouting match. When it's over, they go from their studios to their homes and maybe at most answer a couple of phone calls from reporters asking for comment, but most often hiding behind spokespersons and other entourage.
It helps no one. It's okay to be Republican; I'd just rather people listen to William F. Buckley than Sean Hannity. Bush the Elder was a better statesman than his son, by far. Look to Dwight Eisenhower, Colin Powell, or Bob Dole. NOT Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, or Glenn Beck. |
