Is a time honored practice sometimes referred to as the "Bully Pulpit."

I'm OK with the President taking his message directly to the people. What I am not OK with is when he attempts to influence those who the constituents look to for spiritual guidance to speak his message for him.

I take that as a sign of desperation.
