especially from people in a position to influence others. Trying to time the request for support to have the largest possible effect, is also common practice. It wouldn't make sense to ask for support during a time when they were less likely to be speaking to as many of those they have some degree of influence over.

Should he be going that far? Good question. I'll need more detail to decide. But honestly, whether or not they support him is still their choice.
