***Half-spoilers ahead***
Imagine rock that's hot enough to be runny. Now imagine enough heat coming from the rock to set aflame a fire hose on the extended ladder from a ladder firetruck that's being used to lift people over said runny, hot rock. Imagine further that the metal of said ladder starts to get soft from said heat of said runny, hot rock.
Now imagine the people on the ladder somehow NOT bursting into flames themselves.
---
Or you could imagine a team of firefighters, in a half-hour, planting enough explosives on an entirely unprepared building to collapse it in a controlled explosion just well enough to block an onrushing river of runny, hot rock.
I mean, sheesh!
---
Day After Tomorrow lost me with the quick freeze. Somebody thought up a cool special effect that made entirely no sense scientifically. Especially with the way they portrayed it.
I could go on about how said brisk, cold air that was nasty enough to flash-freeze people didn't kill wolves and how said wolves were clever enough to get onto a ship that the humans had to climb to get into. Or how the wolves would have already been hunting Lower Manhattan for food when there were so many frozen dinners in New York to choose from.
Don't these people think about plot holes at all? Or about their godlike insertion into the story of things that just don't make sense?
Jackson's King Kong had me literally rolling my eyes and groaning in pain when I saw a 1920's, ditzy blonde vaudeville actress teaching our large ape the sign language word for "beautiful"...only forty or fifty years before they even started trying to teach gorillas sign language.
The writer in me despise that kind of stuff. |
