If the company is privately held, as in it is "owned" by the boss, then I'd say that likely the DVD, "owned" by the company, is his as well: a=b, b=c, a=c.
However, gray is gray. I worked once for a small company manufacturing a specific type of machine. The owner (privately held) was a very persuasive salesman. From experience, I knew him to be the kind who would learn the product line only so he could sell beyond. Over a period of a few weeks, I realized that he had sold one of our machines to a company which had a product that was too large for our machine to handle. The owner of the client company had become suspicious, and was beginning to ask questions. My boss came into the engineering department to instruct us that in the event the said client called to speak with any of us regarding the machine, we were to tell him that we would get the boss right away, and to put him on hold until the boss could answer his questions. This came too close to complicity in criminal fraud in my view. Fortunately, a recruiter called me the following week, and I ended up working for the competition.
Moral: sometimes you do have to cut and run, even if it is only so you can look at yourself in the mirror. |
