Well, THAT was exciting... by carthax 2009-08-24 14:16:35
So I got a call from Eowyn's boss saying, "Eowyn's been taken to the E.R., complaining of stomach cramps, nausea and vomiting."

"I'll be there in 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic," says I.

Looked around the IT suite; couldn't find my boss anywhere. So I ran to the car, got in and called his cell while backing out of my spot. He told me to go ahead and get out of there, and to just let him know when I knew anything, to which I said, "I'm already on East Clark Street on my way out of town."

So... 55-70 MPH through Murfreesboro to the interstate, where I put the cruise control on 90. I was at the hospital in 15 minutes.

Turns out it was severe cramping (ladies, you know what I mean; guys, you don't want to) and the associated ooginess. Only difference between this and normal was the cramping and pain were completely debilitating, to the point where she couldn't move from the fetal position on the floor. :-(

She told me that her ambulance crew was remarkable at helping her feel at ease, talking to her and joking with her while being completely dedicated to their work. She said the E.R. staff was spectacular, making sure that she was as comfortable as she could be. Aside from a Nurse-In-Training that needed a lesson in patient questioning (looming over the patient with a perpetually surprised look on one's face will not make the patient [or her husband] feel comfortable, no matter what you've been told), we were very pleased with the E.R. staff, and will definitely use them in the future (if there is a future event, which we hope there is not).

The final prognosis is, quite literally, "We're not sure. But we know there's a UTI, so here's an rx for antibiotics, and you should follow up with your ob/gyn as soon as possible.

I brought her home and put her to bed, then went back and got her antibiotics from the pharmacist. She's reading comfortably, with orders to yell if she needs anything.

All-in-all, not the best Monday afternoon I've ever had.

I'm now going to go drink a beer.
