Philosophy Corner: Ontology by MatthewDBA2009-08-24 06:51:21
If you include 'unconscious' thought... by TrogL 2009-08-24 08:50:59
...by definition, you don't know you're doing it.

Conscious thought appears to consist of a 'stream of consciousness' (I had mistyped 'scream' which in many cases, including my own, may be fairly close to the truth) consisting primarily of speech (or in more drastic cases, "the voices in my head") but may also include visual, olfactory and touch cues.

A single thought is an arbitrary subset of the above, for example hallucinating the smell of fresh cinnamon buns, the feel of sticky fingers, the sight of buns on the rack at the cafeteria (which currently is sold out), culminating with the internal vocalization "Timmies run!!!"
