The company I work for is gradually going under (small contract engineering firm plus financial insecurity = almost no business), and the two owners are doing everything they can to keep it going (including not paying themselves, and selling random bits of equipment on ebay to help make ends meet)
I've been doing some part-time work at my old university, and it looks like there's a new full-time position being created there, where I'm pretty much a shoe-in for the job. Unfortunately while the position will be guaranteed to be there for 7 years once the system is up and running, the first 6 months is going to be building the system, and hoping that everything comes together well enough for them to want to continue. Add in the large number of stakeholders, and it's going to be a difficult 6 months.
I've talked to one of the owners about it and I've got his support regardless of what I choose. It's just a difficult move - especially the leap of faith that's required.
*sigh* |
