Because in this case, the truth was not just about her suitability to her profession, but about an aspect of her mental makeup which caused her to be unsuitable. This put Dippy in the position of being the psychologist himself, trying to work out what was going on in her mind and present her with the truth about who she was and what she was doing (in this case, doing wrong).
But psychologists aren't (supposed to be) in the business of confronting others with the truth about themselves; they're (supposed to be) in the business of helping others discover the truth about themselves, and confront it with the support they need. That's not what was done. |
