or at least sets up situations where the outcomes are so complicated people think they're either completely random or can only be explained by vague rules in general cases.

The fact I'm too thick to spot the laws in nature, doesn't mean the laws aren't there. It also doesn't mean that they're magically produced by something special humans have that "lesser animals" don't - apart from the feedback loop storing information outside our brains for others to use has created.

Look up "Emergence" on wikipedia. It's spooky what simple sums can build, and how fast the simple sums produce the incalculable.
