You know you have done a lot of tech support when. by Classic_Jon2009-05-08 12:19:16
Yeah, that happens from time to time by PeKaJe 2009-05-08 15:51:41
I've become the resident expert on the SCADA development tool we use, so often it's a lot faster for the commissioning people to call me with a problem or question than to dig through unfamiliar code or read the various manuals.

Recently, while walking around a noisy dairy plant, and configuring a touch-panel, my cell phone rings. Someone on another site in the middle of nowhere calls with a problem related to the GUI translation.

While continuing my work I listen to a vague description of the problem and instruct him to check a specific file for a blank line at the end (required artifact of the input function) and to check a couple of log files for good measure.

5 minutes later he calls back, thanking me for the precise debugging help, and for catching a couple of other issues that would eventually come back to bite us.
