(Get used to thinking creatively to solve problems, that is.) I got that from being a math major; I'm sure people could get it from other places as well. How do you define being a "real" programmer? How do you decide whether your code is working in "the best way that it can" - and how do you decide the meaning of "best" in that context? I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you that programming has been made less demanding; I'm just not sure that this is necessarily a bad thing.
