Not quite the UF Philosophy Corner by MatthewDBA2009-05-08 07:30:42

Why would one have to know by MatthewDBA2009-05-08 10:46:56
You have to know those things... by jdelphiki 2009-05-08 11:28:48
...because they can help you answer the question. If creation is flawed, it implies that the creator is imperfect. If the creator is imperfect, it's still technically possible that it had created everything, but not nearly as likely. It's kinda like reading a story where the author relies on an obvious deus ex machina trick to pull off the finish. Imagine...say...Ike Clanton whips out an AK-47 and mows down Wyatt Earp and his brothers in the gunfight at the OK Corral. The story would be ruined because of the imperfection of the mechanism (quite literally) the author inserted into the tale: a modern machine gun in the old West. Instead of having a seamless tale where the author...as its creator...is invisible, we see the author's fingerprints and fallibility and don't believe that the story's world is real. We also don't believe that the author/creator is infallible, so we don't trust that the author could truly create an infallible world.
