converters and adapters. One type converts the PS/2 signal to USB and thus will work with most PS/2 keyboards (except particulaly unstandardised or power hungry ones), the other type just changes the plug and requires the keyboard itself to talk the other protocol.
2002 is a relatively new keyboard, PS/2 compatible keyboards date back to 1985 and some people are still using ones from the late 80s (IBM ones especially). I've just put away my usual 1993 keyboard to try out a smaller one, although it is starting to show a few signs of giving up the ghost now.
Oh, and cherry are still going strong and probably still make the model that you're using now so if you wanted to you could probably get the USB version of your current keyboard. The G## at the start of the model number will tell you what type of mechanism it uses (although some like the G80 have several varients) and the second set of numbers (-3000, -1800, -11900 etc.) will tell you what chassis it's using. The letters after that tell you which varient of the mechanism, what type of keycaps and what layout it is and the final number gives you the colour (-0 for white, -2 for black). |
