Why Star Trek 2009 is Teh Awesome! (some spoilers) by subbywan 2009-05-08 01:27:32
1) No Rick Berman
2) WELL cast crew!
3) No Rick Berman
4) Spock gets the one girl Kirk doesn't (though, i'm not sure if that's because she's who she is, or because she's human and Kirk only sleeps with female aliens, the little xenophile ... )
5) No Rick Berman
6) JJ Abrams did a GREAT job directing. The movie was well-paced, and fluid, without making you feel overwhelmed.
7) No Rick Berman
8) The cast stayed true, IMO, to the original characters, but they were not clones of them. They were allowed to make the characters their own.
9) No Rick Berman
10) No "Kirk saves the day at the last second, and restores everything to the happy way it was". The ending was FANTASTIC!!! They have a WHOLE NEW UNIVERSE IN WHICH TO CREATE!

And all of the above was due to one thing, #11 - NO RICK BERMAN!!

The gushing over, there were a couple of inconsistencies that may be cleared up in the book: Like why a red exo-skeletal creature was doing, alive, on an ice planet. Yeah .. just a small problem with those two things ...

Here's hoping the new Star Trek universe will live up to the promise, and not the reality, of the old.
