But it seems to me a bit of a stretch to pull this back all the way to evolutionary principles. It seems a bit strange to me, for example, to say that "'looking good' ... enhances the probability of our individual survival." I have difficulty with it because it seems problematic to say (in a non-circular fashion) what constitutes "looking good" in a particular situation (including tens or hundreds of thousands of years ago), and whether that has uniformly enhanced the probability of individual survival. I don't think it's necessary to go back as far as evolutionary behavior to reach your conclusion about the dung heap and paradise. (I do agree with it though.)
