the purpose of laws is?
Laws exist to enable people the freedom to do what they want. In order to do this, they must counteract only those actions that are detrimental to other people's freedom.
Well, criminal laws, anyways. There is another set of laws governing how people interact, mostly economically. Also, a certain set of decency laws, although IMO those should be more localized -- enacted and enforced locally rather than nationally.
But the criminal laws are the important ones. And if the assumption is that all men are evil, then criminal laws would have to be designed to keep all under control, not allow them to be free. This would make a HUGE difference in the laws. Why, think about what it means to privacy laws alone ... |
