There was a recipe for brisket that was handed down for a couple of generations. The important first step, as was told to the granddaughter, was "First, cut off the end of the roast" and then season and cook...
Grandma was finally in attendance, and she watched as her now grown up granddaughter dutifully cut the end off the roast, and started seasoning the meat and putting it in her pan.
Grandma asked "why did you cut the end off that roast? That meat is perfectly good!"
Granddaughter replied: "That's how you've always made it! Momma taught me how to cook this!"
Grandma rolled her eyes and said "Oy! I cut off the end of the roast because it wouldn't fit in my pan!"
Yes, there is a reason for everything, but that doesn't mean the reason remains VALID throughout time. |
