As much as my husband and I are not religious, we still went ahead and got married. We did not have any religious readings or references, and as much as neither of us are big fans of organised religion, we still asked my husband's uncle (a pastor) to perform the ceremony.
With modern adaptations of the wedding ceremony, people can have weddings performed under any religion, or even lack thereof. The basis of marriage should always be one of making a life-long commitment to another person. I can accept some churches not being able to accept gay marriage, but those who can should have the right to perform marriage ceremonies for gay couples.
So in short- yes, I think I'd vote for that law to pass, as it means that churches who do strongly oppose, don't have to participate, but it leaves it open to those who do wish to. |
