Serious question for those against gay marriage. by Snate2009-04-15 12:37:15

Phrased another way.

A) Be ok with the law because it specifically excepts?
B) Still oppose based on whatever reasoning you want.
C) Willing not to vote no, thus passively voting yes?

The issue is that only A and B are choices. Voting C is pretty much not taking a choice, its a passive decision. What if you phrased it, "at least be willing not to vote yes and abstain from voting"

The way I see it, you must stick by your beliefs on this, and perhaps be over-ridden by others; or the government. You must then decide to either stick to your guns or bow to the changes in our society.

What needs to be decided is if what is desired is equal equivalence to marriage under the law. OR a legal definition of marriage as one human being to another human being. What is being voted on is not "an allowing of this or denial of this" as most states allow civil unions. It is what we are going to codify the word "marriage" to mean.

Frankly. My opinion of this is that the word marriage needs struck from the LEGAL repetorie. There should ONLY be a definition of "civil union" and the only ones that can use the term "marriage" (which should be a non-legal binding) should be a religious group. Groups should only respond to civil unions. Everyone is then equal. Marriages are just the "religious" name put on some civil union.
